St. Mary's win the Accrington School's Tournament! Match Report by Harry Moss

The first game versus Mount Pleasant started brightly on a difficult pitch with some nice passing and mixing it up. Harry P and Maxwell linked up nicely to get the opening goal and calm a few early nerves. A clean sheet in the opening game and very well organised defensively. Final score 1-0 win.

The second game versus St Johns, Baxenden was dominated by St Mary’s with numerous chances, but we just couldn’t find the back of the net. Final score 0-0.

A great 3-0 win against St Anne’s and St Joseph’s which was led by a convincing hat-trick by Maxwell. We now advanced on to the semi-finals after not conceding in the group stage.

The Semi – Final saw us win 2-0 against St Peters & St Pauls, Rishton.  After a great cross by Harry P,  Sam slotted home with a tidy finish. Then a brilliant corner by Maxwell Sam coolly headed his second of the game which put the game out of reach. We advanced on to the finals much to the delight of the crowd!

The final saw us play St Marys, Oswaldtwistle. After being cheered on by parents and teachers including Mr Mashiter we won the tournament with a 1-0 win. There were some great saves by our keeper Jacob and a well worked free kick from Harry P which separated the two sides at the final whistle.

I’d also like to mention and thank our very own Pep Guardiola, David Blezard, who led us onto the win in the end!!!

Well done to Junior, Milo, William, Jacob, Harry P, Maxwell, Sam, Freddy and Harry M! Everybody in the team contributed to this win and a massive thanks to Mrs Sheridan who helped organise the event without her this never would have happened.

St. Mary's go top of the football league with 5 wins out of 5! Report by Sam B.

St. Mary’s year 6 boys competed in the Hyndburn League Football Competition (League B) on Monday evening.

In the first game against St. Nicholas, Harry P came off the bench and immediately scored the winning goal to earn a 1-0 win in a very close game.

In the second game against Belthorn, Sam latched onto a long ball from Harry M, flicked on by Harry P to score the only goal, after only 10 seconds.

In the third game against Benjamin Hargreaves, Harry P scored a game-changing penalty and followed up with 2 assists for Maxwell to score twice to make it 3-0.

Next up was St Mary’s Oswaldtwistle where 2 more goals from midfield by Maxwell secured a hard fought 2-1 win, proving that the St Mary’s defence is not invincible.

In the final match of the day the lads ran out 2-0 winners against Great Harwood thanks to 2 goals from Harry P, including one incredible free kick.

5 games, 5 wins - a great start to the league season.

All of the boys (Freddy, Harry M, Harry P, Jacob, Junior, Maxwell, Milo, Sam and William) contributed to a great team effort and an outstanding performance. Big thanks to our own Alex Ferguson (not Pep Guardiola!) David Blezard for coaching the team, to Mrs. Sheridan for organising the event and all of the parents for cheering the team on.
