Phonics has been a major focus in school for the past 2 years now. Last year, our school was in line with national and Lancashire averages and in 2020-21, we achieved 85%. Above national and Lancashire averages for the first time! This is down to the hard work of phonics lead Mrs Hinett, and all of our staff, in providing exciting and challenging tasks which the children really enjoy. We are closely supported in our work by the Lancashire Literacy team who provide training and advice for us throughout the year...
This year we have been selected as a pilot school for Red Rose Phonics which is closely linked to their Letters and Sounds program. This is the only scheme that is used in school. With this package comes regular training and support from the Lancashire English team. Please see below for more information on leading the implementation of this scheme.
Below are a selection of photos from the 2021 summer term. With COVID restrictions in place and the emphasis we put on outdoor learning at every opportunity in our curriculum, we try to take meaningful phonics learning into the outdoors as often as we can.
