"Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? So glorify God in your body."
(Corinthians 6:19-20)
P.E. & Sports
At St. Mary's, we offer all of our children, regardless of background or ability, a plethora of opportunities to take part in sporting competitions throughout the year. Some of these involve playing against other children and teams in our own school and others involve competing against schools from the local area. Our emphasis is always on enjoyment first. Last year, 100% of our pupils took part in some kind of competition or event. Our sports leader, Mrs Sheridan, works tirelessly to set up events and makes sure that our children are fully prepared for them. This led to us receiving the 'Sports School of the Year' award for the Hyndburn District recently.
Lancashire Platinum Sports Award
After winning the gold standard for the past 5 years, St. Mary's was officially recognised as a 'Platinum Sports School, in recognition of the internal and external sporting opportunities it allows for our children throughout the year.
Sports Ambassadors
Our two Year 6 Sports Ambassadors play a big role in assisting our Sports Subject Leader with decision making in school and representing us in lots of different ways.
FUNDA
We use our sport's grant very carefully and buy into school only the very best provision for our children. As part of this, we are lucky to have FUNDA each Wednesday who work with the Breakfast and After-School Club and each class throughout the day. They cover the whole curriculum but tailor it to the needs of our own children, helping to produce resilient children who can take this confidence into other areas of the curriculum to help with their learning. Coach Kyle is a firm favourite with the children and they always look forward to his visit.
Please take time to read the FUNDA biography below for an insight into the huge amount they offer schools like ours...
P.E. & Sports Clubs
At St. Mary's, we aim to offer children a wide variety of clubs to choose from in order to give them a taste of a multitude of different activities - sporting and otherwise. These include Handball, Football, Netball, Athletics, Forest School, debating society and much more. In addition to our own staff, FUNDA provide some of these clubs and we also have the invaluable help of our parents who have used a talent of theirs to enhance children's opportunities.
